Fourth of July

This is probably one of the most copied and misrepresented images of the Revolution. You've no doubt seen dozens of versions of it over the years, usually similar to this one, with the central figure carrying the flag. But the actual picture it comes from shows two of the figures with drums. The flag is actually carried by a fourth person in the background. In any case, the actual source painting is called "Spirit of '76". The painting, also known as "Yankee Doodle," was painted by Archibald MacNeal Willard, circa 1875.

And exciting news for film fans. Lost footage from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" has surfaced in Argentina. About 24 minutes of missing film will be added back to the sci-fi groundbreaker, leaving only about five minutes still lost.

That's all for today. Take care when driving and when playing with fireworks. Then, be sure to tune in again for this weekend for the Full-Color Sunday Funnies and a new podcast.

See you then!
